PSALM 91:1-2 - ENCOUNTER(Presence)
Psalm 91:1(ESV)
1 - He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
As I read this I thought of my roommate. Before we started living together my knowledge of her was just enough for me to decide to live with her. But after she moved in my knowledge of her grew rapidly. Her moving in made it possibly for us to constantly be in each others presence, which led us to discovering different parts of ourselves that we could have only known with being in each others presence.
And so when I think of dwelling in the shelter of the most high, I think of it like that of my roommate. For me to grow in my knowledge of God. for me to know how to better communicate with God, for me to get closer to God, for me to think, be, act, and love like God, I have to know him and that depth of knowledge of him can only come with me constantly dwelling in his presence.
In this psalm David goes on to boast about what he can now say of God after dwelling in his shelter.
Psalm 91:2(ESV)
2 - I will say to the Lord 'my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
After living with my roommate for this long there are so many thing I can boast of about her character that I wouldn't have been able to if I hadn't lived with her. For example, I practically stopped cooking since she moved in partly because I can be lazy 😏 but a huge part is because she's a great cook and so why do I need to cook with such a roommate 😜.
Same thing here for David boasting about the characters of God. For us to know and experience the characters of God we have to be dwelling in his presence/shelter. Some encounters can only come with dwelling in the shelter of the most high. David did that which led him to discovering the different dimensions of God.
Merry Christmas y'all.
Peace ✌🏾
