A MIND SET ON GOD
A process as simple as fixing my gaze on Jesus in the place of prayer can become a battle when my mind is fixed on everything but Jesus. Remember when Paul said in Romans 7:15b "for I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate"? he was referring to me, because that's the only way I can make it make sense. The more I choose daily to die to myself the more I just want to be out of this flesh and be in my glorified body because this flesh is not it at all. (Don't worry I'm fine)
You ever start praying and your mind start parading different thought with the mission to distract you from praying. I was praying the other day and the only thing on my mind was the Quaker Oats I was going to eat after praying, may I also add that, that's my least favorite meal. So, why was that the main thing on my mind at such a time? this flesh!
That's one of many temptation of what a life of daily dying to flesh can look like. Although, in moments like that his strength holds me and lead me to his throne room, I on my end must make sure I am always setting my mind on Christ. I like to think of our minds as our power house, before anything we do becomes a reality it is first conceived in our minds. As little as taking a bath, taking a walk, choosing to lie or watch that pornographic content or in my case having the Quaker Oats after praying. So if our mind is this vital, my thought is that it needs to be guarded because the trajectory of our life literally flows from it. Being mindful of what goes into it also becomes important, because that then has the power to influence how my mind will work.
So, what how does this apply to our faith? This much I know:
Romans 8:5 - "For those who live according to the flesh SET THEIR MINDS on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit SET THEIR MINDS on the things of the spirit"
So if whenever I try to pray all I can think of is Quaker Oats and not able to set my mind on Jesus, Or if like Paul said I/You are always doing the very thing we don't want to do then we're doing something wrong. I'm not saying it's a sin for our thoughts to wander when we are praying, No. But when wandering on anything but Jesus is the only thing that happens in the place of prayer, there's a problem.
Our minds would typically wander around things we've/we're feeding it. So, what have you been and what are you feeding your mind?
Peace.
